Arah Kiblat - Imbauan ini disampaikan mengingat pada saat itu merupakan cara yang paling mudah untuk mengukur arah kiblat (Kabah). "Alangkah lebih baik jika saat menjalnakan shalat, badannya menghadap tepat ke arah kiblat sebagaimana tuntuntunan Al Quran," ujarnya kepada Tempo, Kamis (15/7).

Pada 16 Juli pukul 16.27- 16.28 WIB, merupakan petunjuk kiblat global, di mana posisi Matahari tepat di atas Kabah dan separuh muka Bumi bisa melihat Matahari. Pada posisi ini, untuk menentukan arah kiblat tidak perlu menggunakan ilmu falak atau astronomi. Cukup dengan mendirikan sesuatu benda di bawah sinar Matahari. Bayang yang muncul dari benda adalah arah kiblat yang tepat. "Masyarakat awam pun bisa melakukannya," kata Slamet.

Arah kiblat menjadi perbincangan setelah Majelis Ulama Indonesia mengeluarkan fatwa Nomor 3/2010 yang menyebutkan arah kiblat sholat orang Indonesia cukup menghadap ke Barat. Belakangan, fatwa tersebut direvisi dengan menyebutkan arah kiblat Indonesia adalah menghadap ke Barat dengan sedikit menyerong ke arah Barat Laut.
